Trucking Corridors

Trucking
According to the Government of India’s Zero Emission Trucking (ZET) roadmap and stakeholder consultations, the selection of the ideal corridor location is identified as the crucial initial stage. This strategic approach allows for focused efforts in developing the necessary infrastructure, charging stations, and other supporting infrastructure along these corridors. Through stakeholder consultations and careful planning, the government can prioritize corridor locations that align with key transportation routes, economic hubs, and logistical requirements, maximizing the potential benefits of e-Trucks implementation. The electrification of corridors can also support economic activity. It will also provide financial benefits by electrifying a particular application segment. e-Trucking can be started at many corridors in the country. An interstate highway, such as the Pune-Mumbai expressway, can be built as an e-Trailer corridor. En-route charging will not be required. Economy of scale can be achieved by electrifying a highly travelled corridor, which can enable the e-Truck market. Investment can be made cost-effective, and utilization of chargers can be optimized with the electrification of highways that have high freight concentrations.

There are two approaches through which corridor identification for Truck electrification has been carried out.

There are two approaches through which corridor identification for Truck electrification has been carried out.

Approach 1

Considering existing trucks operating conditions

In this approach, corridors for electrification are identified using Stakeholder Consultation based on the existing Trucks operations, volumes and use-cases preferred for electrification as mentioned in section . Corridors identified by stakeholders are analyzed and assessed further on the basis of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), Stakeholder priorities and Infrastructure availability to get priority corridors ranking.

Approach 2

Considering future development plans and infrastructure

Another set of corridors are identified on the basis of development plans and connectivity levels for Port-led Industrialization under Sagarmala Program mapped with other important features such as identified Costal Economic Zones (CEZs) from Sagarmala, identified Ports (Major and Minor) under CEZs, major Districts, National Highways and Expressways connectivity, proximity to Inland Container Depots, Refineries, Gas Pipelines and national Railways Lines.

Approach 1 - Corridors for Electrification based on Stakeholder Consultations

As per the consultations from truck fleet operators, taking account of existing operating conditions, the following corridors were recommended by stakeholders.
